reflective faces of new york

On my recent trip to New York, I got a chance to just sit and relax in Time Square. New York, any amazing place as it is, Time Square is just magical part of the city. You can just sit and watch people all day long and never get bored. This time I travelled with just one Canon G10 point and shoot camera with me to shoot with. While I was sitting and just watching the happenings around me, I noticed that the light in the Time Square is just magical. There is no direct sunlight in the noon time. The Time Square is surrounded with huge sky scrapers and lots of huge advertisement billboards. However, there is sunlight reflecting into to the Time Square by the very same sky scrapers which are actually blocking the direct sunlight. I quickly found out that this reflective light is just pure bliss pouring in for amazing pictures. You have to chase this light all over in the Time Square.

All of these following pictures are taken with the beautiful reflective sunbeam illuminating the faces of the people walking into the light and I was just sitting there with my camera. I essentially used very expensive light reflectors in the form of New York high rise buildings.

photoshop world expo 2010 – Washington dc convention center

I got to attend the Photoshop World Expo and Conference today in Washington DC. It was good to see all the latest and greatest tools and technologies of photography under one roof. I heard the opening day, which was on Friday drew about more than 2,000 people. That is a huge number. Got to meet with some of the Kelby media folks, tested some new lights, played with some new photography software. All in all it was fun. Here are a few pictures from the expo.

Washington dc auto show – 2012

Last week I attended the Washington DC auto show held at convention center. They have 2 separate floors for foreign and local (American) cars. The foreign cars floor has some really nice cars while the local cars floor has some really nice models with the cars. I wonder why hmmmmm…? lots of emphasis on hybrid car and get to see some new really cool concept cars from both local and foreign manufacturers , looks really promising. Here are a few from the show.

a constant light shoot

About two weeks ago, I got the chance do something out of the norm of my shooting style. I am mostly the natural light and strobe light photographer. This time I get to shoot using constant light with SpiderLite TD5 fitted with octa softbox. I tried different placements, but the most pleasing one was when I put them in clamshell configuration. I took the first shot and the results were amazing. The only thing that I kept reminding me is to hold still while taking shot (I was shooting with Nikon 80-200 F2.8 on my Nikon D300s body) since a little motion in the shot was causing blur in the picture. I think I like what I got from these lights. Here are few headshots from the day.

This is the only shot with Nikon Sb800 in Apollo 28” softbox.

alamgir– the elvis of the east

Alamgir Haq is his full name although we all known and love him as just Alamgir. One of the greatest voices on Pakistan television. The voice that I grew up listening. I got the opportunity to shot OPENDC annual conference held at Westfield Marriott Washington Dulles on November 19, 2011. At the end of the conference I get to meet and attend the benefit concert of Alamgir, I have never ever felt so nostalgic when he just sang all the numbers that I have my most cherished memories of past associated with. It was beautiful.

It is quite unfortunate that Alamgir has both kidneys failed and he needs dialysis to survive, but it is so much encouraging to see that how strong he still is and performed for about 2 hours with such passion and drive like nothing is wrong with him. He loves it, During his performance the doctors and his music crew continuously were reminding him of his health condition and asking him to take it easy, but his reply was, this stage is my home, I feel at home when I am on stage and singing.

I encourage to all my friends who also loves his music to go to his page and donate for he needs it now. He is right now waiting for a kidney transplant. You can go to his fan club to donate or buy his music.

West Virginia, Wild and wonderful

Went to Charleston, WV to attend the hacke3rcon. Had good time, learned quite a new cutting edge stuff in the world of computer security and hacking. Woke up this morning in WV to see this wonderful and beautiful site from my hotel room. Fog and smoke was rolling in, the sun coming up doing its magic with the warm and soft light, lighting up the valley. What more could I ask for. Snapped quite a few shots, here are a few of them.
